You'll have to be careful keeping some cichlids with the Tetras, some may eat them. You could try Keyholes or Rams. Both quite nice. ;)

Are there many cichlids that can be kept in a community aquarium?

I love the cichlids which come from the hardwater african lakes; i know these are out of the question.

But i have heard of softwater cichlids which look like there hardwater cousins and are supposed to be less agressive.

Does anyone keep any softwater cichlids in a community aquarium?
I keep bolivian rams in a community with tetras, danios, gouramis, and small catfish (otos, corys). :)

Rams, Kribs, Angelfish & Discus. are all cichlids that can be kept in a comunity tanks

But Angelfish & Discus get rather big and will certainly snack on your tetras.

The german blue ram looks quite good.

I love the look of the Cockatoo Dwarf Cichlid, are they suited to a large community tank?

I'm guessing that there are no african cichclids suited to a community tank.

Yes, I agree that Rams and Kribs are great, and although angelfish may go after your tetras, discus will NOT. I've had them with cardinal tetras and it's really no problem. They Discus are far too shy and slow to try to catch the faster, more active cardinals. And besides, they depend on the cardinals to show them when it's safe to come out of hiding. It's always great to have a school of cardinals to help your new Discus get acclimated to their new aquarium. :p
