in the shop it was called a redgold blue ram, the fish is basicly a very light pink, with darker pink nose and fins, the fins have tiny blue dots, its between 1 and 2 inches right now, and is roughly the same shape as a blue ram, but bigger

what i'd like to know is the real name of the fish and how big it will grow

It could be a gold (color morph of german blue) ram or a bolivian ram as well. I suspect it is a bolivian but the 'redgold' name makes me think it's a gold...

some pics,

yes i think youre right, it is very yound, maybe the colours will come later, although i've had some blues before, and they were a lot smaller than this fella

as you can see in the smudged picture, its dark pink at the front, and a lighter pink everywhere else

if the belly is pink, than it is a female...

that looks like a blue and gold ram mixed together to me... so it will probably grow to around 2 inches

Fish shops and breeders like to come up with new names in order to sell fish. It's no different that any other commercial product really. I'm guessing that what you have there may be the product of some selective breeding and therefore the fish do in fact look a bit different. This is an ongoing process with captive-bred fish like rams, other dwarf chichlids, all fish really. New names are given but it takes time for these names/varieties to gain acceptance and become widely recognized. Some do - some never do.
