Thanks, Nick

Denison Barb or Red Lined Torpedo Barb or Puntius denisoni
The one on the right looks like an Indian Glassfish or Chanda Ranga

good photography!

Gosh those replies were quick.! .......... Thanks. :good:

What sort of size do they grow to.? (presently about 2 1/4 inch in length.)

Nick

I agree with Carlovel; definitely a Denison Barb.
They really should be kept in a group of 6 or more and can get to 6" in length. Hope you have enough space for them!

The little guy is a Gymnochanda filamentosa, AKA Filament Glassfish... I have six of them!

His/her dorsal fin should have some fine fin extensions that are almost as long as the fish's body, about three rays (although if its a female these rays are nowhere near as impressive).

Have you only ever had two?
Does the shop you got them from have more?
What else is sharing the tank with them, besides the Denisonii (Redline Torpedo) Barb and what looks like a form of Rummynose Tetra?

I bought the last eight at my LFS, but sadly two died within 48 hours. The remaining six are doing well, sharing with 10 Golden Kuhlis, Rabbit Snails and six "refugee" Pearl Danios (which i hope to upgrade to my Rio240 again after a juggle of fish between four glass tanks, as Filament Glassfish are extremely intimidated by fast, boisterously feeding fish). Good tankmates are "micro fish" from the Asian region, things like Hengels rasboara; Dwarf Emerald Rasbora; Chilli Rasbora; the African Clown Killifish etc.

I think the one in centre screen is a flying fox?

Oh that made me chuckle. How on earth you came to that conclusion i'll never know!
Maybe rdp has red blindness, in which case the fish would very much look like a Flying Fox ;)

But so far I'm suprised things seem to be centring on the ID of the Puntius denisonii, when clearly the glassfish is the fish of intrest here ;)

You sure its a Gymnochanda filamentosa, NObody Of The Goat?
It doesnt have the longfins

I think we need a better photo to be sure either way, Carlove1, as the dorsal almost looks nipped in that photo.

Yes I am red green colour blind, they look the same to me I even googled them first! Sorry.

Looks more like a Chanda ranga than fin-nipped Gymnochanda filamentosa.
Here is a Chanda ranga

The size of these glassfish when bought, how long they have been kept and how long they are now will help ID. Chanda ranga reaches ~7cm, Gynochanda filamentosa reaches ~4cm.

According to the following site, it reckons there are 15 species that look like Chanda ranga...

This sounds like a mystery ID for Dr Monks!
