First of all sorry its a small pic.

Ok this fish is around 7-8 inches long and abount 2-3 inches deep.

It is dark blue in colour and has 'whiskers' like a catfish.

I cannot think of what it is so i look to you for some ideas!!

Oh dear god!!!

My folks are certainly going to have to re-consider keeping him!!!

They bought him fromt he lfs 2-3 months ago and he was 1-2inches long!!

Very common problem, they come accross as some sort of dwarf shark type thing, shame they grow into 3' monsters.

I would recommend taking him back to the fish shop :good:

If they won't have him back, try and find a Maidenhead Aquatics, the one near me always takes back large fish!
(they have a red-tailed catfish there now which can grow well over 3ft) :)

There closest Maidenhead is in peterborough i will try and convience them this weekend coming But i will need to give them some alternatives etc.

So any ideas for a tank that is around 1.5m Long 1.5/2m tall and 30cms wide. (its a tank that is in a wall seperating two rooms.

For a fish that big you'll be looking at a 500-1000 gallon aquarium at least.

another name is an id or iridescent shark if i am correct.. I am unsure, but from my experience on this site guessing not, if the dwarf version is sold in the uk, but I kno that the lfs here claims to have dwarf id sharks, which grow to a lesser size. I am unsure if it is the same shark or not, and if they were not sold as dwarf, then yes you very well may be screwed:p gdluck with them and enjoy it while u can as they are beautiful sharks, take pictures:p

Scientific Name(s): Pangasius hypophthalmus, Pangasianodon hypophthalmus, Helicophagus hypophthalmus

Common Name(s): Iridescent Shark, Pangasius Catfish

Family: Pangasiidae

Species Type: Asian Loaches/Catfish

Maximum Size: 48 inches

Life Span: 20 years

Natural Habitat: Asian rivers

Minimum Tank Size: 2000 gallons

Tank Region: Bottom

Possible Tank Mates: This species is not suitable for aquariums of any size due to their adult size.

Description: They are difficult fish to care for, despite their being easy to acquire. They grow very large, and easily outgrow even large tanks. As they are fairly active swimmers, they need a lot of open space in their tank. Floating plants seem to reduce this fish's nervousness, as they provide shade. Bright lighting is unnecessary and even harmful, as it will make the fish skittish. The iridescent shark can be purchased in an albino form and an artificially dyed form. The dyeing process is very harmful to the fish and should not be supported. These fish can be quite nervous are easily spooked, and have very bad eyesight. Not recommended for home aquaria because of the large size they attain.

Temperature Range: 72°F - 80°F
