My siamese fighter keeps hiding behind my filter on the tank, squeezing into a really tiny space and staying there for ages, somethings only coming out for a couple of minutes then going back, is this normal ? in my old tank there was no where to hide as such and he was always swimming backwards and forwards across the tank.

there is only just enough room for him to get behind the filter and im a little concerned that he may get stuck or get his fins trapped in the filter.

any ideas ?

Cut a bit of filter sponge and stick it in the gap that should stop him

Are there things in the tank for him to take cover in? Plants or driftwood, caves or whatever? If not, some floating plants at the least might make him feel more secure.
