Hi I have few platies. One of them, the older one, has gone missing. I've got it with mounting cloud minnows. I had lid on. I've checked between the plants, filter even any decorations with entry and still nowhere to be found. Fed regularly too. Any idea on what could have happened?

I know there's a lid but have you checked the floor around the tank? Fish can jump through the tiniest gaps. Do you have a cat or dog? They have been known to eat fish which end up on the floor.

I don't have any other pets. Checking around the tank was first thing I did. I checked multiple times to make sure I didn't miss him

Welcome to TFF.

Any possibility it could have made it's way into your filter(s)?

Any shrimp or snails in the tank?

I've checked the filter even tho there's no way he would fit in. I used to have both, snail and shrimp. They disappeared too after few weeks. I had plants put in to provide cover for them. I'm planning on getting shrimps tho

How long has the fish been missing?

There's always the possibility that it died, and the WCMM's consumed the carcass...it's a fairly common occurrence when fish die, and other fish (or snails or shrimp) are present

I literally just found him in the tank. Must have been somewhere where I couldn't see him. Anyway I don't know if he'll make it as he doesn't want to swim as much. This happened to me before with another platy after she had littles. I can tell there's something wrong because he keeps swimming at the bottom and his back fin isn't up as its supposed to be

How long has the tank been set up? Is it cycled?

I've had this tank for 2-3 months. Left it cycle for over month. Before I had him in smaller tank. Then I got new one so I've left him aclimate to the bigger one for a while and he's been alright in there. Keep it cool too as it's cold water tank

You have to actively monitor your water params while cycling a tank.

What are your readings for ammonia, nitrIte, and nitrAte, using a liquid test kit?

I had a few minnows die overnight who were apparently eaten by their guppy tank buddies . This was a covered tank. These things happen, fish eating dead ones.

Following a caution by Bryon the other day, I covered my only lidless tank. It houses 3 goldfish on a counter next to my stationary bike. See a lot of these fish faces & would be devastated if one made a flying leap.

I made the cover from a plastic grid sold at home improvement stores, cutting it to fit the tank & the terrestrial plants, pothos & Lucky Bamboo. The roots uptake nitrates.

Cover made yesterday for my goldfish. Thanks to Bryon for saying all tanks should be covered. I made the same ones for the axie tank.
