As ive been observing my new Harlequins, I noticed that they get stuck behind the filter, not because its sucking them in, but because they try an swim behind it and dont fit! How can I stop this?

Your best friend works for a fish shop, why dont you ask them? They give all the best advice, apparently.

Do you have plants in your tank or other decoration?
To prevent this others have squeezed foam and other filter malterial behind the filter!

no need to be nasty tizer...

just put some foam behind the filter and push the filter into a wall... they'll stop trying to hide eventually.....

Wait till tomorrow as it seems like whatever the other members say, you won't agree with unless your so called friend expert aggrees with it herself

Tizer and fish friend2 just lay off :grr: . He's asked a simple question that deserves a simple answer. Don't let silly things that happened on other threads leak into new ones!

you expect us to respect someone who insists on how unfriendly this forum is, and was stupid, and immature enough to post a thread about it. i dont think so.
and for the original question, i would stick some plants back their and some more on the other side of the tank, as they are probably just looking for a dark place to retreat to, hence why they are trying to get behind the filter. :good:
good luck with your new fishies ! :)

I'm not asking you to be respectfull, i am asking you to answer his question in a nice way and prove him wrong!. but i must admit, i took a break from here for about a month, and alot of people have seemed to me to have gone sour.

Agreed; come on guys, don't just confirm all the OPs bad impressions of us

We're better than that (or ought to be anyway)

OP, blubble is right, you need to put something behind the filter to stop the fish getting in there, or they really might get stuck. Some media from your filter or filter floss won't look great, but would do until you can get something else.

If you can't block up the gap any other way, then long term you can get black filter sponge that would do the job and be less noticeable.

Yeah, it's just stress from being in an unfamiliar habitat; the fish doesn't know that there's no big fish waiting to eat him up, so it wants to be safe. You do need to block the gap; as I said, some media from your filter will do the job for now.

Do you have the tank lights on? It might be a good idea to just have the room lights on for the rest of the evening, as that'll help reduce the stress on the new fish.

Plenty of plants, rocks and wood to hide behind!
