Hey guys kind of like a minor emergency, this day I was checking my tank out and noticed a barb was missing then looked at my filter and it was trapped behind it! it's a stingray filter and uses suckers so I took it off the tank and the barb was fine, phew! But I need to know my fish are safe when I'm not there to un-sucker my filter. Can I put something infront of it or something ?

I can sympathise, had problem with my small tetras and a juwell built in filter box. Still not resolved it, tried neodinam magnets and underwater silicone.

I used to wrap some tights around mine when they were small. What are your tank stats? My neons were getting sucked in consistently and it was only after I read up on cycling and got a test kit I realised they must have been weakened by high ammonia :'( newbie mistake

The tights worked well on the other hand ;-)

I have also had this with my pygmy cories (one particular nutter) kept getting stuck in my 54 litre behind an eheim, never resolved it but ended up taking them back to the lfs, too stressful :(

Good luck in solving!

I've heard of this happening with a few filters now; mostly the stingrays (which are horrible filters, IMO, anyway) and the Fluval U series.

I've filled the space between my Fluval's holder and the filter itself (I had a glowlight danio get stuck in there) with filter floss; doesn't look pretty, but at least I know my fish are safe.

No expert, but how about stuffing the gaps with cheap poly sponges?

Maybe a filter sponge behind?

I had this problem with one fish and my extra filter (was there to keep it cycled), my solution was to have one suction cup stuck and the other on not so it lifted it just enough away from the glass as not to let anyone get stuck.

Tank stats are: ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 5ish
I guess ill just try and position a sponge in the back or a plant or something :)
Yeah my barbs are mutters like! They zip to the airstone and let the bubbles shoot them Up and then zip down again! Can watch them for hours :p had No problems with them
