Can anyone recommend an auto fish feeder for when we go on holiday? We have a Juwel Rekord 70 tank.

may i ask how long you are going on holiday for ?

i dont recommend auto feeders as often they over feed and soil the water.

if you are going on holiday for less than two weeks i recommend not feeding them at all as it is quite healthy for them

On this occassion we are going away for a week. We bought an Eheim Fish Feeder but cannot get it to work on the timer. Last time we went away we had a family member feeding our fish and as a consequence fish died and the tank was disgusting, fish poo, algae, cloudy water, etc etc.

Any other suggestions?

I can't see how they'd be okay? I mean, if I was left a week without food, okay I wouldn't die but I'd be bl00dy hungry!

fish don't need to eat all the time like us
they're cold blooded, therefore don't wast energy keeping their body temperature stable, like humans or dogs!

when they are shipped from asia to america, they often go 3-4-5 days without eating without light!

plus, lots of fish can eat algea and such, like livebearers or most catfish!

sure they'll be hungry, but their instinct tells them to be hungry all the time!

EDIT- very young fry need to eat everyday though, or evry second day at least to stay healthy. then again, if you have plants, they'll eat tiny bacteria that multiply in plants like java moss and such!

You could put some sort of bottle nside the tank with some holes cut in it and put some biggish live food in there (like glassworms or bloodworms or something) so when they swim out the fish can eat them or similar.
