hey so i have had 2 female bristlenose 2male bristlenose and 3 platies die in the last week...

i have some bristlenose fry in the tank and they are fine a d my male betta and my kuhli loach i dont understand what is happening.

i thought maybe it was my media need changed well the activated carbon or it can do damage to the fishes health but i have got new media here and i dont know weather should i start from scratch or is there a disease in my tank so there is no point changing the media will it not just ruin that too ?

all the fry in that tank are all doing well and the male betta and loach... i just dont understand why the adult bristlenose died and not the fry :S ???

HELP please

ive ran out of test strips :( wehh !! but i did a 70% water change and it was ok for about 2days then another fish died ! but why arent the fry dead then ? would they not be more sensitive than the adults ? :shout:

You need to try and get it tested, If it was Ammonia or the other one (I forget if it's nitrite or nitrate) poisoning you need to keep doing massive water changes!

but mate why didnt the fry die then ha :S im so confused about this !! i can move the fish to another tank would this be better ?

No clue?! You can do either really, keep doing massive water changes or move them. Its up to you really!

think i will move them to be on the safe side :/ get some mature water later on in the week maybe from my mates tank could be an option or even some media from my filter in the 60L to get it going again ! :)

Until you know what the water is doing you can in no way know what the problem is. The test strips are well known for being unreliable, if you have a big nitrite or ammonia issue you need to be doing 70-80% waterchanges DAILY.

As to the other fish surviving, the fry were born into it so may tolerate it better as they are still growing maybe? Fish cope with water issues differently.

Also what is the filter, cycled, tank size etc.....

if you change all the media then your good bacteria will be lost. you need a testing kit really. how were your fish acting before they died ?

hey i am just starting over again and using mature media from other tank.. :/

the tank is a 110L with allpondsolution 1000lph external filter :S

they were all acting normal i dunno whats going on but im starting over again ive lost to many fish i dont want to risk anymore

thanks for the help guys !

If the fry are/was born into this tank then they'll have been able to adjust to it, better than a fish that was added from another tank.

So inrealistic terms fry that are born into a tank are very likely to survive what fish that have been added won't.

Sorry if it offends but thats a cop out and if your really concerned for the fish, irresponsible. You have done nothing to prevent this happening again with your next tank.

That's a lot of bristlenose plecos. And everyone knows plecos are extremely messy fish. I have a single male BN and he alone doubles the bio load in the tank. I wouldn't doubt there's some water quality issues with 4 BN's and BN fry.

In regards to the adults dying and not the fry, that's got me stumped. However, I know for a fact that BN's are up there among the toughest fish in trade. I'd be worried about what's in your water if they have passed. How long has your tank been set up? How big is it?
