Ok so was doing my water change on Saturday like normal, only to find one of my emerald eye rasboras in the bottle I had filled! I took it to the bathroom and started to poor the water through my net to catch the fish (plug in place) eventually manage to get the fish into the net so pulled the plug and was about to return with the fish to my room! The little thing jumps out of the net into the sink, I make a grab for it and manage to get it and almost got the plug back into place unfortunately this little guy decided he wanted to make a dash for freedom once again and jumps into the plug hole, managed to catch him but before I could pull him out he jumped again right down the hole!

My friend and I did not know whether to laugh or cry......... so from now on I'm going to have to put some material over the pipe so that I can't have any more escapes! Whats worse is that I had 8 platy fry try the same trick the night before luckily they aren't very good at jumping unlike the rasbora!

Ok, I am assuming you do water changes by filling a bottle and opuring it down the drain, so if you find a fish in the bottle, simply pour the water back into tank with the fish and re-fill it.

PS - I laughed

I did think of that but I thought it would have been simpler just to catch it in the net, but I obviously had one well determined fish!

Don't worry bout the laughing everyone at work has laughed at me!

I think a bit of material at one end of the tube will work next time!

Did you check in the U bend under the sink? The fish could be trapped in there still.

or you could just leave the plug in place until you have replaced the fish in the tank. ;)

I would have checked the U bend if I'd have known how to do it! I'm not very good at that sort of thing and would probably have broken it knowing my luck!

Some fish are just too curious for their own good...during a water change I had a Danio charge the inlet of the tube like a raging bull. Funny to watch him do a few loops through the clear coiled hose before being spit out into the bucket...goofy fish!
