Hi could anyone help me please my fish are dieing one by one and im not sure why,
here is a bit of info on my tank and the problem

My tank with the problem is an 80l tank, its been set up since feb with no problems at all, it matured quickly and the water parameters have always been perfect.
I got 3 new fish on tuesday 1st may (harlequins?) and added 2 plants. By the thursday 2 of the new fish were dead, they showed no signs of being ill at all on the saturday i had one of my other fish die mid afternoon, i did a 10% water change and everything seemed fine. on the monday i took a water sample to my lfs and the test came back ok. then on the tuesday 2 of my frogs died and one of my dwarf gourami, i did another 10% water change and removed some of the fish to another tank i had spare, i have this running with water from my baby tank and i only have 2 air pumps running in it to keep oxygen in the water (it is temp). on wednesday i woke up to find my ghost knife fish dead and went back to lfs for more advice, the said that maybe i have poisoned the tank water and to continue with water changes and put activated carbon in. currently today (thursday) i have had 1 frog, 2 glass catfish and 1 red dwarf gourami die. i have been doing 10% water changes in both tanks everyday, the 80l has not had anymore deaths in it but the temp tank has and some of the fish look really ill and act wierd before they die. the frog that died today had a poorly leg, its webbed foot had shrivveled up and had a white fuzzy stuff growing around it, and the glass cats feelers had shrivveled today before they died.

does anyone have any idea what is wrong and why do the fish in the temp tank continue to get sick then die?

going to lfs tomorrow with frozen dead fish in bags to see if they are any the wiser.

Did you cycle the tank before adding fish?

It sounds as if you had quite a heavy stocking in the tank in the first place.

Not being funny but have you got a heater and suitable size filter running?

The tank was cycled for a week before any fish were added, all the fish have been fine in the tank until now so im not sure if it is heavy stocked. yeah i have a heater and filter recommended by lfs so they should be alright and with regular water changes the water quality has been really good.

Are you completely sure that it has no ammonia or nitrite? When I first set up my 10 gallon tank I thought my tank was cycled but later found out I was wrong. Doing water changes is always good and you might want to try larger ones. I know people who do 75% water changes with no problems and it always get out what is currently in the water.

How did you cycle the tank? I'm not sure it could have been completely cycled in a week.

Unless you have had a donation of mature media then it is near impossible to cycle a tank in a week.
Do you have your own liquid based test kit? If so, please post a FULL set of water test results.

Terry.

You Cycled a filter in a week? When you say you cycled it what do you mean? Have you added ammonia yourself or simply left the tank with water in it for a week?

My advice would be to buy a liquid test kit and test your own water, the place you take it to might be using an inaccurate testing method.

Have you read about fishless cycling at all? Keep us updated and we will try to help you out best we can.
