Well never though id be here, but I woke up this morning and I was rushing on my way to school as I was late, THEN I noticed my tank you couldnt see into it, and a few dead bodies floating around :D.

I know what to do now, I just wondered do you think it is because of a fish died over night, and nuked the tank? Or another reason. There was a weak fish in the tank that I think might of had a parasite issue....

What size fish/tank are we talking about? I mean if a little guppy or neon died overnight in a community tank it wouldn't normally cause the tank to cloud up as the other fish would normally eat most of the dead fish within a couple of hours, leaving just the head and tail!

But if it was a large cichlid that died, then maybe it could have polluted the tank overnight, especially e.g. if the temp is on the high side and aeration switched off.

Without a bit more info, Ace, it's a bit hard to say...

African cichlid tank, I think I found the cause, On of my biggest cichlids in the tank seems to of got his head caught under a rock and died there :|...

Oooooh that's awful! Poor thing! Yes, well, that would explain it. You'll have to fill that gap under the rock with substrate to make sure it doesn't happen to any of the others.

Awww, sorry to hear that...

RIP fishie :sad:

gaps are hard to fill with African cichlids, as they just dig them up again

Amonia = 0.25
Nitrite = 5+
Nitrate = 10

But im going to have to deal with this in a hour because I have schoool :|

fish out all bodies and as big a water change as you can do until you get back from school to bring the ammonia/nitrite levels down :)

Back from school, brought the filter from upstairs and chucked that on it aswell, and am going to keep doing water changes. I have no dechlorinator atm so non declorinated water is going to have to work

You can only do small water changes with no declorinator.
R.i.P.

Have you increased aeration.
How many water changes have you preformed.

I have PERformed about 3 huge water changes of about 50%.... I think its the best I can do really, the rest of the fish are simply going to survive or die....

You could of made matters worse if you havent used declorinator.
You are only meant to preform small water changes so you don't wipe benefical bacteria out in the filter

Dude I am not a new member, I know this..... But I did what I could with a bad situation, no need to nit pick. Fact is I dont drive and everyone was at work. If I could drive I would of gone and got some dechlorinator....

Sorry to hear this ace, hows things this morning, I know you have no dechlor, you could boil some water first, or leave it to sit overnight if need be to gas of the chlorine (although I know it wont work on chloramine).

Alot of people actually dont use dechlor (read thru the scientific part of the forum) but on large changes like that Im not sure how it would work.
