I've done a bit of investigating and I am thinking maybe the following for my new 65gallon tank (36x18x24)...

Neon Tetra x 8

Cardinal Tetra x 10

Glowlight Tetra x 8

Dwarf Neon Rainbow x 6

Red Phantom Tetra x 6

Might need some sort of algae eater in there too, so I'm open to suggestions.

Was also considering adding a Discus at some point too.

What do people think of the amount of fish and also their compatibility? I'd rather have a pretty peaceful tank, but appreciate it will be tough to get it perfect.

Any help or advice would be great. Thank you. :good:

You could put many more tetra's in there, but then the tank would look really full( depends on what your aiming for). Since your a newbie, you probably havent heard of cycling( sorry, if you have), but here is a link: http://www.worldcichlids.com/faqs/cycling.html
You can do either fishless( which involves alot of chemicals, atleast i was told that), or you could pop a couple of dime fish in there until the tnak gets ready to go. The stocking sounds fine. A discus wouldnt hurt, but you need imacuatly( sp?) clean water to keep them alive. Also, as far as bottom feeder's, i personally would get any type of pleco as they poop more than they eat. Also, with your fish, a group of Cory's: http://www.aquariumwereld.be/vivarium/viss...lineatus-gr.jpg
You would need to get a group of like 6 though, as they do best with more than one. Hope this help's, and Welcome to the Forum!!!!!!!!!!!! :hi: :band: :fish: :hi:

Hey, thanks for the response.

Yup, I know all about cycling my tank and I'm going to do it without fish.

I really like the look of the tetras I mentioned, I just want to know that they are all compatible (I've read conflicting information). I'm not sure if I will get a Discus if they are so fragile - but if anyone would suggest something attractive that would compliment the tetras, I would appreciate it.

Thanks for the welcome.

Hi jeej Consider adding some pencil fish- Nannostomus beckfordi-link
These are hardy pencil fish and are not shy at all.

Mine are a joy to watch, as the males are displaying to each other a lot, they swim vertically next to each other rubbing up against each other, which is fascinating to watch.

It sounds its like a nice tank I love my Tetras, consider getting 20 Cardinals and taking away the neons, the larger the school of Tetra the happier they are and the more impressive it looks.

20 Cardinals, yeah that does sound pretty good - nice suggestion.

So you think I'd be ok for space with:

Cardinal Tetra x 20
Glowlight Tetra x 8
Dwarf Neon Rainbow x 6
Red Phantom Tetra x 6
Beckford's Pencil x 6
Cory x 6

I really don't want to overstock - that's 52 fish.

Sounds fine to me m8. Tetras are low waster producers so you can put in quite a few.

As a kind of center piece fish think about a pair of German Rams or a species of Apistogramma. Also a nice fish that occupy the top of the tank is the Marbled Hatchet fish-just some ideas for you. :good:

Those German Rams look fantastic. Maybe I will look to add a pair once my tank is nicely established.

I'll probably look to add the Cory's first as they appear to be the most hardy of my selection.
