i just joined this forum so pardon my newbie question....and uh....way of thinking
i just bought 5 neon tetras and 5 black neon tetras thinking that they names are similar so why can't they live together
that was until i became curious and looked it up on the internet
apparently they aren't compatable, and i lost one neon on the very first day to my filter.
what would happen to my fish since they aren;t compatable with each other. they seem to be doing fine.
and i put them in a 10 gallon tank that my previous goldfish(which is like 6 inches long now) lived in.

in a nutshell, what will happen to my neon tetras(cuz they are a heck of a lot smaller than the black neons :fish: )
:rip: for the neon i lost 1 day later

neons and black neons are fine together. There shouldn't be any problems at all.

Neons and black neons shouldn't have any problems with each other. I guess the only thing to add would be, neons aren't always happy with "new water" and do best when added to a mature tank.

Welcome to the forum Streetrat. The neons and black neons are fine together. Since you are coming from having goldfish, do you have a heater for your tank? Neons and black neons will not be OK with cold water. They are tropical fish. If you kept the tank running with the filter on it after you took out the goldfish you may have a cycled filter. It depends how long it was left like that. Otherwise there is a link in my signature to how to do a fish-in cycle. You will need to get some testing supplies and a 50W heater for a 10 gallon tank.

i bought a 100 dollar kit that includes a heater(but for some strange reason, no suction cups?)
and i bought 2 new fish(to replace my now 2 dead neons) they have yellowbody with black spots near it's mouth and a black tail.(like the color of ther germany flag....except maybe out of order) i didn't really look at it's name before buying it...
