Hi this is my first post so go easy lol. I'm basically after a bit of advice on tank mates and who needs to be rehomed.

I have a 125L tropical tank containing;

1 Albino Cory
1 Kissing Gourami
1 Cherry Barb
1 European Reed/Rope Fish
1 Angel Fish
2 Opaline Gourami
& Finally 1 Evil Male Kribensis

I have been having a lot of problems with keeping peace in my tanks recently and its mainly down to a lone male Krib. I bought him with a female but she was harassed so much that she didn't make it. The Krib then attacked everything else in the tank so was moved to a tank on his own for a few months. I am getting rid of that tank now and have tried to put him back in but he is continuing to attack everything so I'm thinking of rehoming him. I purchased the Opaline Gourami today and thought that before introducing them it would be a good time to change the tank around and add some more plants and a large bit of bog wood. However since releasing them the tank has gone a bit mad. The Krib is attacking everything it sees and the kissing gourami is going after the Opaline. The only fish thats alright is the Reed fish wish just casually swims between the chaos. So if anyone can help me think of a way to resolve this then let me know. I'd love to have some more fish particular need larger fish and i love a bit of colour. Thanks :D

A suggestion for you... As well as re homing the krib (mine were a nightmare when breeding) I would also rehome the kissing gourami and angel (tank a bit too small) and up the number of cherry barbs and Corys to 6+ (the more the better) as they do better in groups :)

I agree with everything except the Cherry Barbs......they're fine in pairs rather than a shoal since they don't really school. Two pair would be great.

If you want colorful fish that aren't quite as aggressive you should try Pearl Gouramis. They get over 4 inches long, males have amazing color & females aren't far behind. You could easily fit a pair depending on what other fish you intend to keep.

Def. rehome the Kissing Gourami because they get over 8 inches long which is ridiculous in a 30 gallon tank. They are sometimes very aggaresive, especially when their home is too small.

Dwarf Gouramis or Honey Gouramis are another option for colorful, less mean fish. Opaline Gouramis can be very bad too, did you research these fish at all? You very well may have 2 males which is a def. no-no for such a small tank. You could have a single female Opaline in that size tank but remember, OPalines get to be 6 inches long so unless you're planning on upgrading the tank, you'd be better off with one of the smaller species.

You should increase the number of Corys to at least 6, I only have 5 myself but I'm planning to add 2 more soon. You don't necessarily have to add the exact species but you should make sure they're water parameters are all around the same. Again, you should at least keep them in pairs, better with at least 3 of a kind. A tank your size could easily handle 9 Corys, 3 each of 3 different ones, or 8 with 2 groups of 4.

You must be quite unlucky as Ive never had a problem with my kribs (Ive had 2 pairs breeding in 2 seperate tanks)

If the kribs are given a nice area to breed in the corner of a tank and the tank has plenty of furniture in such as plants, bits of wood/slate/rock etc then the tankmates can get out of the way when the kribs are breeding. The male will aggresively defend the breeding site and once the fry venture out the mother will aggresively defend the brood whilst the father relaxes a bit. Either find a female krib and try and improve the tank to give them areas to hide, or get rid of the krib (and at least the kissing gourami)

Gouramis are fairly easy to sex - the dorsal (top) fin is the most distinctive difference that can be seen between males and females. The dorsal fin of the female is short and rounded, while the male has a longer dorsal that comes to a point. This will help you decide if you have 2 males which will fight!

I think you are going to have to rehome the Krib.

The Kissing Gourami will get too big for your tank.

As will the Reed Fish (which is from Africa btw), and which also do much better in small groups.

The Barb and Cory will also be happier with more of its kind.
