I got up for work very early yesterday, switched my tank light on.
Noticed the fish to be not moving much just milling around the tank hardly moving and just their fins twitching?
The black neons looked washed out too which was concerning !
I put a little food in and some ate it but not as feroshious as usuall.
Arriving back home later in the day they were back to normal full of colour and swimmimng happily.
We're they sleeping o something? Anyone else notice this in there tanks ?

If stats are all normal then I would imagine that the sudden change in lighting stressed them out? I try to do things in stages for my tanks- I take the covers off of them (they are in the garage and so are covered at night), allow them to adjust to that, then switch the lowest light on, then the brightest, etc.
Maybe try something similar for a few days and see how they are

My fish are the same, I guess their like humans in respect of needing a bit of time to wake up in the morning :p

Fish often will grey out/ fade/ drop thier colour over night and the sudden shock of having their light turned on when they where still snoozing comes as a bit of a shock to them. I would say yours where still in the land of ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

,and that was why they didnt bolt down their food.
Try an experiment when you have time, in the morning if possible turn on a light near the tank or in the same room and then gradually turn on other lights before turning on the tank light. The gradual wake up will wake the fish nicely and they will be ready and eager for food.

my rummy nosed tetra take a short while for their colour to come back on a morning too...

I thought as much, just like there owner then lol
Thanks people, shame they don't like English breakfast tea they could share mine to wake them up in the morning !

Will try the light experiment too cheers.

ive always opened the curtains for an hour or two before putting the tank lights on...i need a brew on a morning too :)

You can also get lights that gradually come on above the tank, giving the same slow dawning affect, I think they are pretty expensive though.

My bad, half asleep in the morning but wanted to look at my babies.
Will leave them be next time, tea is a must in morning mrs m !

Not really sure the commercial name for the type of dawn/ dusk/ night lighting but I found this after a quick search "compact Fluorescent hood incorporating an actinic bulb," A search with the key words Dawn affect lighting should bring up a lot of options for you.
