Hi all,

I found a company called Tri-Mar online who seem to send fish by courier. I was wondering if anyone had experience of this company and could recommend them or warn me off.

Aside of the obvious distance selling (not seeing and being able to inspect), I am concerned whether the fish will suffer.

Any comments? Any experiences, good or bad?

Thanks,

Irf.

Tri - Mar are ment to be a VERY good mail order fish company,

I think most people will say this,

They are perfectly safe being delivered by courier, after all, the fish have a much rougher jouney from the far east to the shop, don't they? Much longer too.

Generally, as long as the fish are packed correctly, and deliveries aren't delayed stress is kept to a minimum. Remember, most if not all LFS, import their fish from foriegn countrys, which would mean fish are in transit for 24-48 hours.

Thanks for those comments.

How do people feel about not being able to choose/check/inspect their fish before purchase? And how sure are we about diseases? Will Tri-Mar guarantee disease-free fish?

Irf.

I wouldn't imagine somewhere as reputable as Trimar would want to diminish their reputation by sending sick fish. Since they rely on being one of the only people to send fish by courier, I doubt they'd want to affect that.

Tri-Mar are an extremely reputable company, which has been mentioned in the Practical Fishkeeping magazine. They offer a DOA (Dead on arrival) guarentee, although I'm not entirely sure whether they offer a disease-free guarentee like most LFS's.

But yes, they are a reputable company, which many have bought from in the past, and currently in the present. From the reviews I have read, you would have nothing to worry about when buying livestock from them. :)
