I've got an established group of Black Neon Tetras and I have two questions:

1. Do they bully other fish? I introduced 10 very small fry guppies (donated from a friends tank) but within 2 days they were all dead. They cowered in corners and hid all the time and I think when the lights went off they were bullied by the Tetras. Does this happen? Water was tested and is fine.

2. Do they nip each others tails as one by one there rear tails are nibbled off. There is always one without a tail. Do they pick on the smallest? No sign of fin rot or other diseases.

Thanks in advance

There will always be a dominant fish in your tank, usually the largest of a shoal or the biggest one in there. Right now one of my Sunset Blushers is the mack daddy of the tank. The true king of the tank is the blue lobster, everything in the tank moves when he comes through.

You will see skirmishes between fish of the same species for dominance, the do this by swimming next to eachother pushing eachother to see who's stronger. Some fish will go face to face trying to bite eachother.

More often than not, there will be bully fish.

My diamond tetra used to be a huge bully on the blue jays.

But then I added the gouramis (with the male being bigger than the diamond) and it caused him to settle down.

The shark tends to mind his own business unless other fish intrude on his personal space lol.

I'd say add a couple-3 more tetras that way the dominance will be subdued.

Or buy bigger, but more peaceful fish.
