So yesterday I was away and didnt get ot feed my fish, one day no big deal, walk by my tank this morning, and it seems empty, dont think to much of it and go eat and then come to feed them... thats when I notice 6 of my fishes carcuses at the bottom or stuck to my filter.

First thing I do is test everything, ph is up a bit, but not much.. I figure my filters (fuval 303 and a hanging one on the back) are doing their job.

So now I look at the rest of my fish, looks like fins are chewed up and they all have less color, and are moving slow and at the bottom, I turned off the 303 to reduce the current and fed them, but only one or two of them ate anything at all.

right now all I got left are two albino cories, two serpi tetras (SP?) and 1 guppy.

What could it be?
Seems like stress to me... but from what? its got my old UPS, so if the power went out they wouldnt have noticed, I dont have other pets...

I'm almost wondering if something got into the water? I put carbon into the filters just in case.

I have a seperate tank I filled to put them in, I think I will empty this tank and clean it out completely with something and see if that fixes it.

I have been getting lots of the stringy algea the last two or three weeks that I cant get rid of either.

If the fins look chewed up you have finrot, any other signs of desease as finrot can be a second infection, any white patches, spots, swelling, etc.

Sounds like a case of fin rot and loads of stress.

I'm thinking that a change like that might have been caused by chemicals that might have entered the tank and perhaps something from a new arrival?

Quarantine is good.

Can you get pictures and better descriptions?

Serpae tetras.

its hard to tell if there are other spots, they are all hiding in the rocks and plants. the guppy gills are moving very fast though, I can tell that.

looks like the fins have been bit off or something, the guppy has anmost no fins left at all.

the corys seem fine, swim around eats algea biscuts, and looks fine.
the one serpae looks like something bit its upper lip off :( and both have like half their normal fins.

No fish or anything have been added in months.

What would have caused the stress? the only thing different for them is not getting food for one day, everything else would be the same as any other day.

I hate this part of having fish.. I feel helpless :(

how olds the tank? it sound like it might be flex.... do you have a heater? temp fluctuations can cause flex to flare up in guppies especaly.... i woke up one morning to find 50% og my gupps had no tail and tehre scales where turning white near there tail.... does it sound like this atall?

so any way my questions to you are
1 how olds the tank?
2 how big is the tank?
3 do you have a heater? (it may sound like a stupid question especaly f you do have one but you never know till you ask)
4 how many fish?
5 what is the usual PH vs. the current PH (you siad it was a bit high)
6 do you use/have test kits? (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate)

I don't think you will save the guppy now it's in a bad way, the one with the lip you will need to treat with an anti internal bacteria med, and add some melafix to the tank if you have any.

Just add the med to the main tank as there is alot of illness there, good luck.

tank is a 50 gallon or maybe a 55? I cant remember, its been set up and running for oh 4 years? maybe 3 only, or maybe 5.

yes there is a heater

there were 6 serpea tetra's 3 guppies (a few babies under 4mm), 4 cories, 4 bloodfin tetras.

had to be 3 months at least since last fish added (bloodfins)

only the corys left now :(
I have moved them to a 10 gall tank thats been filled with water from my 20 gall tank. seem to still be doing good.

should I drain and scrub this tank? and start over with new media in my filters even. or is that over kill.

I hope you get answers soon :(
I know how frustraiting it is to be in this predicament. Mine are dying in my 55 gallon too all with varying aliments that came on all a sudden. I have now lost 3 Orange von rio tetras, 1 pearl gourami all in two days.

All I have left now are 5 Orange von rios, 1 pearl gourami, 2 ottos, 2 caes, 1 molly & some molly fry.

still waiting for some advice in my thread

Good luck with your soloutions :byebye:

Just treat the main tank first with anti internal bacteria med to see if that stops wiping everything out, as starting again won't be any good for the corys.
