Fish Age And Longest Living.

I was curious to know if fish have an age structure similar to cats and dogs, where one year our time is equivalent to so many years their time?

Also, what tropical fish tends to live the longest?

What is the age of your oldest fish? Have they developed particular habits over their life span that stands them apart from the rest?

clown loaches can live a long life so too can gold fish , ive heard of cardinal tetras living 10 plus yrs from some body off ttf a few months ago, my longest living fish so far was a cardinal also , he lived about 4-5 yrs but sadly died of old age i suspect

i think cardinals live about 6years and i know neons will live for 10+years if you can get them established

goldfish can live for an average of about 8years if i am correct.

black sharks can live 15+years in perfect conditions tho

apparently, the larger the fish the longer they live generally, or at least this is what i heard. Common goldfish, clown loaches, and plecos seem to be among the most long lived.

Yep, MrFish (see photo) is 13+ and still as active as ever! Wish all my fish lived this long...

Goldfish: 10-30 years
Clown loach 15+ years
Neon Tetra: 5-10 years
Cardinal Tetra: 4 years

yup some big fish like cichlids could easily reach 15-20 yrs

fish live a lot longer than people migth think!

A properly cared for Goldfish will probably make it to 40 years, a properly cared for koi might make it 200 years. Size does not ensure long life, there are killies that get to 5 inches in one year but rarely make it past 16 months, there are also tetras that stay about 1.5 inches and live for ten years, although really big fish generally do live long, unless they are salmon.

my mum has had her shubunkin for almost 3 yrs. i remember getting her the tank and fish in october 2003.

It has grown so big i've just bought him/her a new house with 3 little friends.

I remember as a kid when I had my first tank, the fish lasted for a few years i think before it had to be taken down and the fish given away. Never stopped and thought about the length some f them would live.

Gold fish - 30 years. Wow.

I wonder how long a Sturgon lives.

The woman I got my 90 gallon from (Gotta love second hand deals) said that her last remaining fish was a Silver Dollar that was EIGHTEEN years old. She actually had to give it away! Isn't that something? I can't imagine keeping something like that for that long (15 year old, sorry ) Anyways, the fish I had for the longest amount of time was a goldfish named Tiny that lived for about 6 years. (He was tiny when we got him, but the biggest thing you'd ever see by the time he passed.)

Koi can live up to 200 years.
