First Tank

Hey everyone, I am starting my first tank and I want real plants versus any fake plants. I was wondering what kind of substrate you use. There will be fish in the aquarium if that changes anything. Thanks for the help!

I use gravel for all my tanks, and the plants are doing great. There are a few sand-specific plants though.

Most easy plants will grow in both gravel and sand perfectly happily. It really depends more on what fish you want; if you plan on having anything with barbels (corydoras, loaches) then you should have sand
