Finally got the rocks into the tank. Just need to get the LED's in under the rock pile.

Any suggestions or observations before I fill it with water? I know the lights are to bright at the moment, they aren't the final bulbs in there.

Great tank :good: . Just my opinion but I think you should add some live or plastic plants in there. How'd you make the background?

Have asked the question about plants in the African section as it is going to be a Malawi tank so ideally some realistic plastics I think, but do confess to liking the sparse look.

As for the background there is a step by step guide on how to make it in the African/Old World section under journals at the top of the page.

Maybe I should ask someone to move it to the DIY section?

This is my first ever foray into fish keeping so your kind comments are greatly appreciated everyone.

Crackin job mate.
Hopefully more people will be inspired to try this out :good:

Great looking tank :good:

I do also like the sparse looking tank, it may spoil the look with plants

Like a PP said, make sure they are secure because if one falls over you could end up with a nasty accident on your hands

Thanks for the wise words. I was initially very concerned with the rock fall issue.

I was lucky enough to have a huge amount of rocks to choose from, having acquired rock over the past few years from ponds I helped dismantle and move to my garden and from a huge fireplace made of ragstone that a mate got rid of. I washed and prepped enough rock to fill the tank twice over.

When I started putting them in the backdrop helped as it enables me to lean pieces against the back glass without fear of cracking/scratching , also the piece on the bottom of the stack is huge so everything is very secure, I tried dozens of different rocks in each place to ensure I had the right mix of looking natural and slightly precarious as I didn't want it stacked too regimentally, I was fortunate enough to find enough pieces too look right and lock together without any pressure on glass or loss of the look.

I can't even budge the stack with my arm, so should be fine.
