First Fish-whats The Best To Add To New Tank?

Its a 200 litre. Id like tetras, corydoras, mollies and guppies again. xx

200L! you lucky girl lol.

Not quite sure what you mean by that? Ive not had a tank in a while so i feel thats a reasonable size to start up again with. (its 200l in UK measures).

I meant that I've only got 125L + breeding tanks. I'd love to have a 200L tank :hyper: Lots more fish... probably more khuli loaches and gouramis

Adding a full tank of fish at once is a BAD idea as any LFS will tell you, introduce them gradually, that way you reduce the loss if there is anything wrong such as the condition of the water or if any of the fish that you buy are diseased.

Any LFS will tell you that for the same reason that they won't recommend fishless cycling in the first place.

Do you know why they advise you to stock the tank slowly?, and if you do, then you'll also know that advice is almost always in relation to a fish-in cycle, which 99% of LFSs will tell you to do.

You do have a point about the disease, but so long as i was sure that all the fish are healthy, i would not hesitate to fully stock the tank after a fishless cycle.

Why do a fishless cycle to save the fish from ammonia poisoning, then very lightly stock the tank and add a few fish every few weeks, creating mini cycles for the fish to endure? Why not just do a fish-in cycle in the first place stocking the tank slowly? It's the same thing. If you do a fishless cycle and then slowly stock the tank, you basically just wasted 6 weeks of fishless cycling!

The slow stocking rule just doesn't hold any weight here.

:p i get you now :) xx

Agree with the stocking everything in one go. If you have fishless cycled there is no reason you cant stock most of your fish in one go (I would still leave it a month or two before adding sensitive ones though).

Yes you could get something bad in that big batch of fish that infects them all. However you could go the slow way adding a few at the time and then with the last lot add a group with something bad still that infect them all so you gain nothing (unless you use a QT).

I agree with going with endlers over guppies. I'm not a big live bearer fan but the endlers are quite pretty and right now are likely to be a lot less inbred then any guppies you find in your LFS.

What tetras are you planning on? If you are looking for something outside the normal neon/cardinal and rummynose tetra then I would say Flame tetras are a good choice, very peaceful but still quite active and have some really nice colouration (especially against a darker backfround). They might look a bit pale in the LFS but they do go a really pretty red with pearlescent green scales.

(baby flametail in the background, pretty easy to breed).

I would also highly recommend a pair of blue rams. Very pretty fish, easy to breed and interesting to watch. Can be a bit sensitive though and make sure you read up on how to find a male/female pair (PM me if you want and I can explain).
