I just got home to find that Colin has made his first bubble nest, im really happy. But what should I do now, destroy in in a few hours or days or just leave it? Shows that he must like his setup enough to want to make babies in it.

I am going to get his first tank mates tomorrow, to make the 30L a bit more active – not that Colin doesn’t take advantage of the space. Im stuck between dwarf corys and African dwarf frogs. The dwarf/galaxy rasbora are also up there as an option. I just need a few of something hardy and small.

Will eventually update with pictures, im sure some of you are wanting to see Colin the red line bred crown tail. Though Mel knows how stunning he is judging on his parents!

He must be happy then to build a nest, well done :good:

Hi, dont forget 30L is approx 7 gallons so you've only really got about 4/5 inches of fish room left :good: Galaxies are a shoaling fish so would be better kept in a good group. Whatever you get its sometimes a good idea to take the male out, move some of the plants, decor about it, put the new tank mates in before putting the male back in :good: Some of our males wont even tollerate oto's in their tanks so bear in mind Colin might object:)

Well the bubble nest consequently got destroyed during a water change, but had I not a partial change I would have left it.

As for tank mates, I brought five little enders, really happy with them. Although one seems to be left out and just hovers in the middle, and the biggest of the five it not the prettiest of colours compared to the other four. Colin did inspect them while I was acclimatising them, but other than that he has left them well alone now.

Im a bit worried about the loner endler and fear he may drop off. And I may give the big un-colourful endler to my girlfriend, so will consequently buy a few more in a week or so. Then I may just settle for a couple of African dwarf frogs, and that’s my setup stocked I would say. I imagine the heavy planting will help out a lot.

the "big uncolourful one" might be a female. as i understand it, female endlers are very plain, and like guppies the females tend to be a fair bit bigger than the males.

Argh damn that if it is, I don’t want no babies. The ‘girl/boy’ does have some colour. My first guess when I saw her/him was it was a endler/guppy cross.

well as a plus point, if it is a female, your not likely to have any babies survive with colin in there, and it provides him with a free supply of live food
