I have a firemouth cichlid and it has not gotten a red throat yet and I was wondering if this could mean its a female??
its about 3 inches and my friend has one of the same size and its already got a red throat?
I also saved the firemouth from walmart and he/she is eating fine and moves around alot?
thanks william

depends on tanksize but personally i would just stick with the 1

ok I was thinking the same thing because I dont want them to fight and I couldnt return them
Are the females as good looking as the males?

yea they look just as good, the red is not as prominant on the throat but still looks nice

this was my old female, she was part of a breeding pair<obviously  >

yeah they still defiently look good
I was wondering I have a 2.5 to 3.0 inch one and it still hasnt got the good coloring does it take this long or not?

I have 5 firemouths all of which have a very prominent red throats. Two are larger and I assume them to be my males.(they are all still juvi's) I think it really just depends on the fish and the environment.

ok well she is starting to get some red on her
do you think I could have a oscar and a firemouth in a 75G with a couple rubberlipplecoes

Oscar and FM would be ok, but the RL-plecos would most likely get eaten at some point by the O

ok so oscar and fm in 75g is ok??

Ohh yea how hard is it to tske care of oscars?

oscars are easy, ensuring you have good filteration, quality food and constant waterchanges renewing at least once a week,,,come up to and join the oscar club, we will help you all the way :good:
open the first page and you will see some useful links to help :good:

I would like to have more than just 2 fish in there could I have some bueno aires tetras or some other sort of large tetra in there??

If you would be looking for a tetra then you dont want to get the neons or the glowlights as i'm guess the O's and FM's will eat them. Congo tetra are nice and they are more than double the size of a neon and glowlight
