Hi guys,

I have a male firemouth cichlid who has spawned a few times and the fry have always grown to be healthy happy fish. My female died a few weeks ago, just before I got my new 100 litre fish tank. He is not aggressive at all and I was just wondering if I could put my guppies in the same tank as him? The guppies are fully grown. He is already in with platies and they are happy together. I have heard people saying to never do this, and I have heard people saying that They have done this and the fish are happy together. I'm not sure and was wondering if you guys could tell me any of your personal experiences with this. I assume the answer will be no, but I was just wondering. :D

Thanks for any answers

Platys and Swordtails occur naturally with Firemouths in the wild.

I would just worry about the Guppys being to small and could be eaten and that the flowing tails could get munched.

I would advise against it. I put a large male molly in with my husband's cichlids and he was gone in a matter of seconds. Literally. And these were juvie firemouths.

Okay thanks for your advice guys It really helped :good: :D :)

my firemouth has eaten guppies, an adult firemouth will deffinitly eat male guppies, and maybe females

sailfin mollies have been seen in many cenotes that firemouths live in, i've kept swordtails with my firemouth for a few months now and none have been harmed
