Firemouth Help Question

Hi all. i have a pair of firemouths. 1 male and 1 female.

what age or size can they start getting sexually active.

mine are about 2 inches in size and are seeming to do the usual cichid mating thing. swimming round and round in circles with each other.

everywhere 1 goes the other alays follows.

Not sure about sexual maturity, but they seem to be interested in pairing.

Between 2.5 - 3" they are capable of spawning.

They will display to each other, swimming around in circles like you see now, the male may also nip the females anal fins, they will dig a pit in the gravel or clean up a rock, find a suitable cave and start to guard it prior to spawning.

My Blue acaras started spawning at 2.5". I think that size is the norm for med size cichlids to start spawning.

yep, that seems about right. I believ convicts can begin spawning at a slightly smaller size but other then them most cichlids will start at about 2.5 - 3.5 ".
