Just a quick thought / question Does anyone know if firemouth cichlids ever eat snails??? the reason i ask is that i recently got 4 new firemouths and i put them into my quarantine tank. This tank had a good amount of apple snails in it. yesterday i put the firemouths into their new 100 gallon home and when i inspected the quarantine tank i couldn't see any snails. I have checked again today and still i cannot see any snails. Now i know that they may well be in the substrate eating detritus but i just thought i would ask if anyone had any experience with firemouths eating snails.

i hope so because i just might introduce some snails into my 100 gallon tank if thats the case because they are very handy at clearing algae and add a little extra life to the tank

Well, if they did eat the snails I can assure you they wouldn't be able to eat the shells - so you'd find something - but I doubt they'd take any interest in apple snails.
