Hi all,

I have a bit of a weird question ... can these firmouth cichlids produce eggs and spawn singly?!...I have ONE firemouth that has been in my tank for about a year and was given to me by a friend who longer wanted him as he was harrassing his black shark. He/she/it has always been pretty moody but has recently dug a bit of a holr next to my large piece of driftwood and under a few plant leaves and seems to be guarding it! Even when I put my face by the glass it flares its gills at me! I am sure I can see some egg type looking things on the underside of the log but is this even possible?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Sam

Indeed they are NW cichlids, a single female could lay eggs, but of course nothing will come of it.

apols for the wrong section post! So eggs may be laid but no fry will appear?!...some of the possible eggs look white and some look more brown...maybe its a godzilla fish!:D

What other fish are in the tank, FM's will hybridise with similar cichlids.

there are no other cichlids! 2 silver sharks, a yoyo loach, 2 clown loaches, fire tetras, some other tetras, 1 plec, 1 bristlenose catfish, 1 large black angel and 6 gouramis.

im guessing she wouldnt have fancied 'having' one of the similarly sized gouramis?!
