I have a 100 gallon tank 4ft*2ft*2ft that i am currently stocking as a community tank, i went to the lfs today and saw some beautiful firemouth chiclids, i asked the shop owner for some advice on the number of firemouths to keep in the tank but he was lets say less than helpful.

i was thinking about getting 4-6 would this be ok or would this be too many??

first off, what kinds of fish are you planning to keep with the firemouths?
4-6 should be fine in a tank that size, i would stay with 4 though

In a 100 gallon tank I'd be inclined to get about 6-8 juviniles with the intention of achieving two good pairs. This would leave plenty of room for compatible community fish to go with them. Do your homework though, these are cichlids and we must be careful what types of non-cichlids we put with them. Anything that can be taken as a competitor, a threat, or a meal will not work.

at the moment the tank will contain about 4-5 angels, 1 plec, possibly a couple of cordorys, this is as far as i have got to defining my livestock for the community tank
