Fire Mouth Breeding Age

Hi...what is the average age that fire mouths begin to breed?...im hoping mine will someday

About 4-5". Keep a divider handy.

Mine were breeding at about 3" for the male and 2.5" for the female.

Never needed a divider, sometimes the female got a litle worse for wear but she always recovered quickly, they bred every 3 weeks or so. Being a community tank the fry never got passed the 2 week mark. And with the ammount of fry they had i wasn't going to raise them all.

Well they were very early firemouths. A divider is for helping the female recover IF she has bad wounds. But 9 out 10 times you dont need one. I THINK they start breeding at 6-7 months of age? Maybe earlier.
