Fire Eel And Africans

i went to hang out with one of my buddys today, and when i was at his house i saw its dads tank. it was a 75gallon with africans but after looking around the tank for a bit i saw a fire eel! : it was around 16inchs long and hes dad said he had the eel with him since there were all about 2inchs big. i thought africans would rip any eel apart? the tank had rock work that went about half way up the tank. i just could not belive that the africans shared the tank with the fire eel. did he just luck out or is this been doing before?

hmm sounds a bit odd to me, I'm surprised aswell, although I assume with the large amount of rocks that they Africans have a hard time getting to the eel, so mabye they've just given up. I'd recommend to your dad's friend removing the fire eel as a 75gallon tank isn't near enough to sustain a fish that grows the the size of the tank itself (4ft).

yeah i'v been bugging him about it he says hes going to get a larger tank just for eels, but i think its gonna happen
