I noticed last night that my nice male red betta has finrot. I have been to my local pet shop and bought some Myxazin to help treat it. Should i seperate him into a different tank. At the moment the only spare thank i have is a plastic round goldfish tank which i would not be able to put a heater in. Would he be ok in this for a few days if the room temp was kept quite warm in my bedroom or is it better to leave him where he is and treat the whole tank.

hey. it's probably best to take him out. treat him in the goldfish tank. and, might be good to treat the original tank anyways but the quicker you tak the sick guy out the less chance you'll have of the others getting finrot too... do a nice water change before you start the treatments. hope this helps.

I was actually going to ask about fin rot myself except that I want to know about how long the fin rot takes to heal up as well as how long fin tears usually take to heal also. Thanks everyone! :)

Monty,

If you're just worrying about fin tears you should keep the water as fresh as possible. Change water every other day with fresh aged water. If you do this the fin tears should heal much faster. The time to heal depends on a fish's age. The older the fish, the slower it will heal. Younger fish heal quite quickly. Let us know how your fish's fins are healing :good:

Thanks for your advice. So will he be ok in colder water for a few days then.

of course that depends how cold. Most of my bettas are in unheated tanks. they do perfectly well :) but my room is usually about 75F anyways. if your room is usually in the 60's he may not do as well but i suspect it should be fine for awhile!

Well my danio gal has had a slight case of finrot on her anal fin for a while now. I just got done with her 2nd treatment with tetracycline tablets, and I'm still not sure if it's gone away.
However, a guppy that we had gotten not long ago had finrot (was like that when we got him)... and his seems to have cleared. *shrugs*
Just all depends on your fish and how bad of a case they have I guess.
