I was thinking about why bettas are so prone to finrot, and it occurred to me that, because their fins are so long, circulation is probably poor in the tips of their fins making them less able to fight infection? Just a theory, but it seems to make sense... none of my female bettas or plakats have ever gotten finrot -_-
