Finrot! D:

Fair enough yeah. I could just feel her impatience. Didn't mean to be rude.

2 days after adding meds:

On the first day most fish (especialy the females) were hiding behind the filter and looking unhappy - absolute panic, but the male's finrot looked better and they weren't dead 24h after the meds so i left them to it.
Now they've all come out and are acting completely normal. I didn't feed them this morning so i don't know if the male is eating again but he looks a lot happier and has gone back to chasing females.
My female's tail has lost the cloudy white edge where it's ragged, but one of her anal fin seems to be getting worse. She's still acting normal so i'm leaving them alone.
I think the hiding on the first day was because of a sudden change in the water's chemical composition. They did it when I added some bacterial meds a few months ago too, but seeing as even the loaches are still alive i think the meds are ok.

I'm glad the platies seem better :good: i bought some corys and the top fins had been nibbled by another fish, and i found regular water changes (every few days) done the trick without the use of meds and within a few weeks their fins had grown back :)

Personally i dont like putting any meds in the tank has it always knocks my stats around, especially interpet brand
.
Has mentioned your nitrate it fairly high, and 6 platies & you mentioned loaches is quite a load in a 28l tank,i expect you probably know but diseases like finrot usually come about maybe with poor water quslity which stresses the fish which in turn lowers their immune system and making them prone to picking up diseases.
Overcrowding, overfeeding, aggression in the tank can all contribute to finrot also.

Good luck with your platies,i hope they make a good recovery :good:

Thankyou :) My platies had the classic whitish fin edges that come with finrot, so i medicated straight away to avoid full blown columaris.
My nearest pet shop is P@H which only stocks interpet meds. There's one a bit further away which has Waterlife, but it didn't have any Myxazin when i went >< My meds are all very old as my last disease outbreak was years ago, but they still seem to be working so i won't restock until i need to.
My tank is overcrowded, which is unavoidable with having a mixed gender platy tank so i let the fry tough it out in the main tank and so far only 2 suvived to adulthood. I'm looking into getting a 64L fishpod soonish and letting them run wild and free :p So far my water stats have stayed stable and all fish are fine - nitrates accumulate over time and gradual increases can be tolerated up to 100ppm by most fish.
When the fish recover i'll be getting my nice new tank and hopefully there won't be any more problems :)

not cured after one week! Is this normal?
