It has been just over one week since I first noticed a few of our fish with ick on them. Since then, I have invested in a heater and ran it at 86-88 degrees for the past week. I also used CopperSafe.

Checking the fish today, all seem clear except one Glass Fish, who initially had it and had more than the other fish. And even at that, he only has a couple white spots still on him. It never got worse, but the other fish that had a few spots have lost them.

Question... After running the temperature up to 86-88 degrees over the past week, should I start bringing it back to the 80 it was kept at? Or should I leave it up until all the ick is off the one fish?

I am going through the same process I am leaving mine at 82 since that is higher than the 75 I usually have it at. I am so afraid to stop treating the tank. It has been over a week now is that long enough.

I put mine at 86-88 degrees based on what I read here. However, I am in south Florida so the tank temperature is normally about 78-80 when I didn't have the heater.

Do you have advice on when to stop treating even if the fish look healthy?

I would probably treat a couple days after the last cyst falls off. Basically, ich goes through a 4 stage life cycle. However, the meds only work in the stage right before the cyst, so treating a few days is probably a good idea. What do your ammonia and nitrite readings look like? Also, giving your gravel a good vacuming would help.

The reason it is recomended to raise your temperature to 84-86 is to speed up the ich life cycle. increasing it to 82 will help, but 84-86 is better. What type of fish are in this tank? most fish can handle the temperature as long as it is raised slowly.

Two days ago (the week after I brought the temp up), I was at 0 for both Nitrites and Ammonia. Nitrates were at 5.

It was time for my weekly siphoning, so I cleaned up the gravel earlier. All the ick is gone from the fish that had it, but one. The one that it all started with or I should say first noticed it on.

Keep your Temps up until a couple of Days after the last cyst is GONE.
I also Agree to keep your Meds up for a couple of days Past the last cyst disappearing.
Then SLOWY Drop your Temps back to Normal.

If you have a Stubborn Case of Ich that don't seem to want to Quit, YES I know the next Statement is of the Old School, and Many don't Agree, But I don't care i'll say/recommend it anyway cause it's Helped me many a times.
Try adding some Normal Non-Iodized Table salt at 1 Teaspoon per 5 Gallons.
This Should Help to Finish Off/Clearing out any left over Stubborn Ich that you May Have Left.
