Okay, I thought I might as well give you all a bit of a laugh, at my expense.
So, I finally decided to get an external filter for my tank. Went for a Fluval in the end, having read a lot of reviews, doing some research and stuff. I know some on here don't like 'em, but it's what I felt most comfortable with for my first external. Tonight, I set aside an hour to install it. This is when the learning curve really started.... I learned that:
Lesson Number 1
When attaching everything and trying to 'prime' the system, it helps if you have the 'in' and 'out' hoses on the right way round.
*ahem*... One I changed them round, it worked just fine.
Lesson number 1 very quickly lead to...
Lesson number two.
Aqua-stop doesn't stop the aqua from flooding out everywhere when you've fitted the gasket at the top of the filter incorrectly.
Never mind. I wanted to do a partial water change tonight anyway. Lost about 25% of the water, so worked out just right in the end!
