I would move all the Bio media from the 105 to the 305, then start up the new filter, with the spare trays filled with other media of your choise :good:

Agreed. If you move all of you old media over to containers in you new filter you will lose virtually no beneficial bacteria. Then just fill up any spaces you have in your new filter containers with new stuff. You may therefore need to buy some new ceramic tubes, sponge and filter floss but these will very quickly become colonised by bacteria. I wouldn't worry about having carbon in there. In my Fluval filter I have ceramic media in the bottom, a course sponge in the middle then a fine sponge with filter floss on top of it in the top section. Water is then sucked from the bottom through to the top and the filtration gets finer the higher up it gets.
