Ok, to those who don't know I have a 20gal planted and have recently setup a 5lb co2 tank using a bubble ladder as a diffuser. I got a tetra whisper 20 filter.

I want to upgrade my filtration and add a UV sterilizer to the system.

My plan is to get an canister filter that would pump the water in and I would add the co2 tubing so that it gets diffused inside the casinter and filtered with the media inside. (what media is used? just a sponge material? no carbon due to plants I know). Then the water would have to flow into 3/4" tubing which would lead directly into a Coralife Turbo Twist 3X - 9 Watt U.V. Sterilizer, then out into a fully submerged spray bar.

Is this a logical plan? Can you recommend me a good canister filter that will be strong enough to pressure the water through all of this? Let me know the brand and model #. I am in the US and I shop with bigalsonline.com.

sounds like a good plan... any external will be ok as the UV wont hinder the flow.

I cant remember if it should be before or after the filter... I had a similar setup on our old planted tank. with a fluval 304 and a vectron 8W UV ;)

thanks, I forgot to ask if an internal would work as well?

and does an external filter need a seprate pump inside the tank to pump the water to it?
