After FOUR months, my tank has FINALY completed its fish-less cycle, my first fish are in, and 1 week later everything is fine!

My nitrogen cycle deceided to stop twice for what ever reason, but I left it and just kept adding my ammonia as and when I needed, and then I finaly hit the 0ppm in 12 hours mark. I left it a week, testing each day and adding 5ml, and for the whole week it processed!

I still had no idea what to stock my tank with and despite plenty of advice from this community (thankyou!) I still could not make my mind up.

So, I went into my LFS with an open mind, spent 30 mins looking at fish (after 4 months of looking at fish) and came away with...

3 Zebra Danio!

I loved them. I had deceided not to get them as I wanted Tetra but meh, I couldn't help my self, since the moment they went in my tank they have not stopped swiming around.

Thank you all so much for your help. I will be sure to keep you updated with more fish I get.

Great news!

I'm not too fond of your ornaments but I guess it's whatever floats your boat! :D

yeah, Im gonna get 3 more at some point (soon as I can get out of work) XD

After that I'm not sure. I will have a think.

If its any consolation bubbles come out of the pirate ship? :p

That makes it sound more exciting! :p

good to know your upping the danios

have you considered some cory catfish for the bottom? there great little fish, so great there takeing over my tanks

congratulations, welcome to fishkeeping!

zebra danios were my first fish. They are manic and great to watch. Once you have a larger group they should start spawning like made....although they will eat the eggs and any fry.

I have thought of getting some Cory, but I'm sure my tank would be suited to them. I have gravel in the bottom - its very fine, each stone is only about a millimetre long, and its more or less rounded - no spikey edges. Its not sand though so hmmm...

I'm thinking maybe a school of Rainbow fish or Rasbora/harlequins?
Bristlenose Pleco
pair of dwarf neon Gourami as my 'centre piece" fish.

I'm very open to suggestions though!

That sounds like a good stocking, something i would do :good:

P.s smooth gravel is fine for cories so you could get them too :shifty:

Nice tank and well done on the fishless cycle. Whatever you do leave it for a few weeks before you buy any more fish and test your water on a regular basis. If you cant decide on what fish you want why not do as I do? I dont set my heart on anything particular cos if you do you can bet that the fish shop wont have it! I take a pad and pen along to my local fish shops and jot down the names of any I like the look of. Then I come home and google the names to read up on if they will be compatible , suitable for my size tank ,feeding requirements, numbers to be kept in etc. This way you get correct info instead of relying on the shops advise which quite often is wrong and you make the right choice for you and your fish! :good:

That's quite a good idea and quite a good strategy. Personally, I would feel silly doing that. I like to go in a shop, get what I want and be out within 5 minutes. I aught to change that to be honest, it's a bad habit!

Awesome job although like other comments, your decor isn't to my taste. That said i'm sure mine would be similar to others too.

My fish are normally chosen by my 3 year old daughter when we go to the shop. I dare not take her when i only need food or i end up buying something else that swims. Thankfully i normally just get one of something i already have so that they can join their own family, lol

I adopted the idea for a few reasons - id get fed up waiting for a shop assistant to become free to ask them about a particular fish, or when I did get the information it was total rubbish! Now I do all my own research before I buy!
