FINALLY I CAN SHOW MY TANK!!!

lol i work in one and i have a friend that works in a specialty store that hooks me up with stuff since i get him work and he brings peopel to me (today i got 12 kuhli loaches, 2 midnight leds, and a custom glass top for my tank, valued at 160 dollars, for 65 bucks). I had more stuff, but whatever i felt i didnt need, i rid myself of :)

i need to take pics of the tank with the leds, they look awesome, and since they are made for tanks, it looks like real moonlight on the water, not just light going into the water! Ill take pics as soon as possible (batteries dead in camera)

Are your nitrates really zero? The only reason I ask is that bga can take hold if nitrates are low, and after my suffering I wouldnt want the same to happen to you.

Tank looks good btw. The fluorite looks good too. Think you made a good decision there.

thank you! I recently got rid of the java fern, except the healthiest an dbiggest peices are stuck in crevices on my driftwood mountain lol. I got some mondo grass and added that to the tank. It looks ok (I dunno, i wish it was like a carpet, but it is nothing like it), and after 24 hours i all ready took out some of the HUGE pecies of the mondo cuz it was ugly, and the roots are so huge on them it is hard to bury them. I kept a couple, to add green in the front though, an dto hold me off for the time being :)

HI ALL! Well i have been looking around at foreground plants, and i have found a few i am going to be getting :) I am going to be getting something for the background or mid ground that has red in it, but i all ready have 6 red lugwia so that might do fine, but for my foreground, i am going to be buying 10 2"x2" patches of micro sword. i heard it will take over my whole bed of my tank. Anyone think this is a good idea or a bad idea? (Ill probbaly never see my kuhlis, but it isnt like i all ready do lol

Nice to see some pics mate. Looks good and a great start, I take it you like the Flourite after all? Good to hear your CO2 is working well too.

I echo Jimbooo - you must get yoour nitrates up to at least 10ppm with all that light and CO2. Algae or BGA will be paying a visit very soon if you're not careful.

Check out my new algae article and zig's EI article for more details.

ANIM4L, is it the brazialian micro sword?
If so, it grows like a weed, send runners out like crazy.
I've got some in my 3 gallon planted tank I've been playin round with and I have to take some of it out every week and either replant in a less dense area or put it in other tanks.
Make sure you separate the plants quite a bit, if you plant the bunch together or too closely algae will grwo on and around the plant, I found this out the hard way.

It should do well, even in a low light tank, but with good lighting and C02 it'll do great.

Not hi-jacking this thread, but just wondering:

the plants you recieve in bunches, you're supposed to take them apart and plant each stem individually?

depending on the plant, you can. If one stem can support itself (also determined by the substrate) then you can. Some things are too weak. I dont remove the byunches, i leave them till they grow out, then replant them around the same area, to make it look nicer. All you have to do, it cut the rotted part of the stem off, trim the leaves, and plant them when you recive them.

Alrigh thanks :) And would Cabomba Qualify as being able to support itself?
Probably not, right? -_-

the stems are pretty thin and frail, i wouldnt tink so, you COULD take a bunch of like 3 minimum and tie a rubber band around the bottoms, and then plant them that way, you will still get a pretty close effect as planting them one by one, but they wont uproot as easily. The uprooting is the main problem (sprry ddnt state that before), if they are really weak, but still in the ground, a current from the filter or evena fish swimming by may uproot it. That is why the lead wraps are the best.

I have talked to my manager at work and she is going to try to special order me about 20 new plants (some of the plants are just getting plucked so they look like sticks, and the sword isnt working out, it is getting too big and once it hits the top of the water, it dies off) Ill post pics in a week hopefully if they come in :) I am getting some micro sword grass (lots of that) and some other various plants to replace others, some even with lots of red, and one that flowers with a big purple bulb!) Ill post names later :) nce i find them out, i forgot to write them down

Also, i jusr read the nitrates thing you posted houndoor and gf225 (i must have read over it somehow!?!?!) i will get working on the nitrates, how do i raise them to 10 ppm? Also, 10 ppm, how do i know what that is gf225, is it like the KH thing you told me about (divide the test readout by 17.9) or something like that or what (im oging ot test my nitrates now :)

lastly, im going to see if my manger can order some seachem potassium, phosphate, trace, and all the other stuff seachem makes for my plants :)

may i say WOW props to ya on all you awsome tanks i wish i was that good lol you make mine look like crap lol awsome tanks keep up with the MTS lol

Thanks (whats MTS?) I am buying new ferts for the tank and getting new plants (hopefully from my manager, so i dont have to oreder online!) but if not then may be in a week or two, and then i need to get it all set up, i am only going to bee keeping the wisteria (may move it to spread ti out), the umbrella sword, the vall, and the banana plant, the others are to stop algea from growing, then i will post mroe pics, eithe rin this post or another :)
