So I finally took a weekend and set my 55 gallon up!! I put my plants in (River Plants, and store bought) , and a couple rocks, and a piece of mopani wood. I have a few other piece of driftwood that I want to put in but, They won't sink LOL..

So anyways I will have to just rescape it when the time comes to put the other wood in. I will post some pics up when I make it home today!!

There is a plant that I pulled out of the river, that I'm not sure of... Looks like the wild onions but there isnt a bulb.. I will post pics of that too. It might not even be aquatic.

But how do I know if I have enough plants to do a silent cycle?? This whole planted thing is giving me a headache.. LOL

Do you mean anough plants to stock fish straight away?

You know when you have enough plants when you can't see any substrate

Also, place some of the rocks on top of the wood to hold it down. :good:

Ya enough plants to stock the fish, LOL.

I know I should of did it that way but, I wasn't thinking. I was rudely woken by my other half, Saturday morning. Only to walk downstairs to a lovely assembled stand for my tank LOL. It was a nice thing for him to do, I put off buying a new stand so I could find a better deal on a used one, but I guess he couldnt take looking at an empty aquarium LOL!!!

So I when to the lfs, got some plants, and started setting up the tank. Forgot about my drift wood sitting in the garage, so I tossed it in the tub, and finished the tank.

I would love to not see the sand anymore, but I think the lady at the lfs sold me microswords, instead of dwarf hair grass. So it prob wont grow in my set up. :look: I should of not bought it, but every plant was buy one get one free!! So they was my free ones.......

Go back and get some more plants then! :D Will you be seeding your filter with some from the 35G? If so then you could possibly stock lightly and build up slowly. I have no idea how many plants you would need to be able to stock fish straight away so wouldn't like to say incase they go belly up  I know it can be done, but unsure of numbers like i say.

I would seed it with roughly a 1/3 of your media from the smaller tank which should in theory mean you can stock with a 1/3 of the fish that you have with relatively no issues.

OK OK... I SEE... LOL I could do that, I'm headed up to my moms today sometime, so I can grab some of my filter media, I prob could almost take half of my media from my other tank, and just put my new in place of it. There is a ton of the ceramic rings and little bio balls, I will just put my new media in place of what I'm taking out Right?? Thanks Pics soon see ya guys in a few hours going out to get more plants from work!!

FREE PLANTS ARE THE BEST!!!!

Unsure if 50% is adviseable incase it starts a mini cycle in your other tank as it will still have the same amount of fish but half of the media to deal with the ammonia etc.

+1 for the 1/3. you definitely don't want to be doing water changes on 2 tanks. For a silent cycle i believe the advise is 75% minimum (you can always change later) planted with quick stems, then 50% daily water changes for the first few weeks.
check out this thread if you haven't already PARC-silent cycle

Sorry I didn't get any pics up last week, When I came home from work friday, I found my little ferret Midge dead in her cage :/ , She was fine thursday night.... I only had her since May and she was only about 8 months old...
:-( This weekend has just been really crappy.... My mom did some research and said that there is a lot of people who bought ferrets from petstores and they just die out of no where... I was going to call the petstore and tell them, but they want her body to give me a refund. But she was more than just a ferret to me she was my pet. I'm going to cut my loss and bury her by my boxer.. Poor little girl.. I will miss her little Dooky self!! RIP Midge... Mom, Dad, and Lessy miss you dearly!!!!

On a little bit of a good note, I got the media from my mature tank and got a few fish in my 55G. They seem quite happy, but right now I just can't seem to enjoy the tank after all of that....
