Thanks to clareuk and Ivan for helping me get this on here lol I just wasn't sure how to do it - thanks guys :fun:

I wanted to post this pic
dyson.jpg

It's the big fish I wanna know what kind it is...in the photo he's with his best pal angel, the kissing gourami.

Dyson, the big dude, was given to me 8 weeks ago from my big sister, who was getting rid of her tank, so I took him and 2 other fishes in.

If anyone knows what he is please let me know...I love this guy!

Thanks clare :D I think he's lovely too, but my mum says he's fat and ugly... I give her into sooo much trouble when she says that about dyson  :sly:

Thanks for sharing your pic Ivor! :) It does look like him doesn't he? I think it's the same pattern...I think mine has had too much cosmetic surgery on his lips - they're HUGE - I've never seen a fish with such plump lips (but thats just me lol) guess he's trying to impress the ladies :*

What a coincidence that you told me how to post the pic on here...and it turns out you have the same (maybe) fish! :fun:

Yeah I'd like to know how big they grow too, clare - he's over 4 years old and about 15cm (but I'm just guessing) wonder if my big guy will get any bigger??

I've seen them at 10" long - that is not counting the tail! So they get almost as long as kissing gouramis.

Oh well Dyson and Angel (My kissing gourami) will be pleased at that once my Gourami gets bigger...what a happy couple

They're really exciting to watch together...what an odd couple! My kissing gourami follows him all over the place, cleans him and I even saw her once just sitting next to him under his fin...no kidding! awww...

definetly a chinese algae eater i have 1 thats 4 1/2 inches long ive heard they grow over 6 but then they get aggresive

Aww I hope Dyson doesn't get aggressive, I thinks he's ok though...never saw him harming or bothering other fish, If he gets too aggressive I'll take him to anger management classes ;-))

CAE (chinese algae eaters) can get up to and including 11" long. i have a 2-3" one in my 10 gal. i know its not proper spot for him, i bought him under the impression that they don't get very big and would be great to clean my tank of algae.

*cough* lfs *cough*

now that i cleared my throat lol  ... what size tank do you have?. they get to be a bit annoying to the other fish in your tank and can get really aggressive. mine already is territorial and he is only a little over 2". its mostly around his food source. if you have a large enough tank he shouldn't bother your fish too much. just chase them away and call it aday. i was keeping mine in a breeder trap (until i am able to rehome him to a friend) and fed him algae wafers. well turns out he didn't eat them. he just stirred them up and made a mess out of my tank. :grr: but i had to let him into my tank again because for some reason (i think maybe the wafers) i have this huge infestation og algae in my tank.

also as the CAE gets bigger he eats less and less algae. lucky for me... mine is still small enough to still rely on that phew! but if your kisser can get really close to him even the size that he's at thats pretty good. CAEs just tend to be aggressive as do bettas... but i have a male betta successfully in a 10 gal community nd 2 females living together happily in another 10 gal community together. it depends on the temperment. my CAE chased other fish away since he was just bought at 1" long.

if you have a big enough tank (which i am assuming you do because you have a kisser than you should be ok

:D

I'd watch him carefully. When he gets agressive you'll know it. They like to eat the slime coat off of other fish, especially slower moving, flat bodied fish, kinda like a large kissing gourami. They also like to eat eyeballs out too....
