I finally got my Betta for my office (I live 2 blocks from where I work so feeding him on the weekends is no problem). I found a beautiful little red Crowntail at Petco. He is now in a 5 gallon mini bow which is heated and has filtration. I initially decided not to use the Whisper internal 10i that came with the mini bow as I had purchased an Azoo Palm and thought it would work better. It was a waste of money (only $8.99) as just as much water was comming back out the front of the filter near the intake tube as was being filtered and going out the outtake. It did have an ajustable flow but the filter media was scimpy. Next I tried an Aquaclear for 5 to 10 gallons. Even at the lowest flow rate my little guy was getting pushed around the aquarium altho I may try to modify it with plastic mesh and aquarium sealer. So now I have the Whisper 10i that came with the tank. It doesnt take up as much room in the tank as I thought it would and there is an adjustment knob that lets me reduce the flow to barely a trickle which is just right for him right now as he is just a baby. I dont have a name for him yet. I figure it will come to me eventually as I watch and interact with him. Glad I found this forum as the info is great!

Sorry, I am one of the few people left who does not own a digital camera but I am working on getting one. I was surprised to find such a pretty little Betta at the LFS. They had several obviously young males- Crown tails, Half Moons and Deltas. I had decided to get a Half Moon before actually looking but when I saw this little male I knew he was the one. Bright solid red wdith fins that end in rays and when he flares them he looks awsome. I usually avoid the Betta area of the LFS's because they depress me and now that I have my Betta I am sure I will resume avoiding this area. I wish they would keep them in a little better conditions. Some of them had obviously been there awhile and were looking unhealthy and depressed. (sigh)

he sounds lovely...and well done for you for providing him with a nice home...enjoy your fish :good:
