Finally Got My Betta And I'm In Love With Him!

I've been after a betta for a while but not actually bought one until I spotted a crown tail earlier and snapped him up He has his own 1ft long tank with sand, a heater, a filter, a make shift light (desk lamp ) and a river rock for now. I'm going to get him a small piece of bogwood with some ferns attached when I have the money but in the mean time I'm thinking of just putting a couple of fake plants in for him until I get paid. Will he be OK with this? Also, are there any plants that they particularly like? Anything other than a budgie mirror (only once a day for 10-15 mins I believe?) that I can provide him with for enrichment? And do they like a lot of hides or will the odd few plants do him? Not that he is going to be spoilt rotten or anything.....

congrats on your new boy if you fake plants are plastic then keep a very close eye on him as they tend to rip there fins on them

As for Fang, i wouldn;t worry too much 1 of my females shows stress stripes most of the time. Do you see anyone bothering her?

No, no-one bothers her which is surprising as my female molly gets tetchy and could easily turn on fang or my cories and kuhlis, but she doesnt! Even though she is almost twice the size of her!

The molly prefers chasing the minnows around.

could be the size of the molly intimidating her. My females are the biggest fish in the tank apart from the odd cory, anything bigger or the same size they gang up on

Congrats on your new boy! You will soon find that one betta is never enough!

As for plants: mine love their Java Fern and Amazon Frogbit. They make great hiding places for them. The Frogbit is a floating plant.

Thanks I'll put the silk plants in for now then although he seems to love swimming about the top of his tank when the light is on fall more in love with him each time I look at him haha! I know I'll be getting another at some point. I spotted a sunburst crowntail on ebay a while ago, I'll be hunting for one of them I think....
