I finally stopped being lazy and set up the 10 gallon tank in a new place. I need to get a heater for it, but what kind of fish should I put in?

Betta... African dwarf frogs... i think chili rasboras are good for 10 gallons... pygmy or hasborus corys... guppies... and if your committed 3 Indian freshwater dwarf puffers

I have a betta in another tank. I am looking for small, colorful fish.

Neon tetras , mollies, platies, guppies/endlers, Glolight Danios, etc are all small colorful fish.

Id advise against he neons, mollies, platties, and danios.

The neons are pretty active and need 6+ groups.

The mollies and platties grow to large for the tank.

The danios have a high activity level and need 6+ schools so they wont do.

+1 on this. None of those fish are suitable for a 10 gallon.
I agree on the chili rasboras. Colorful and are lovely in groups. You could do a school of about 6 to 8 of them and maybe a few otos or shrimp. You also do the guppies and colorful shrimp like cherries.

You can do shrimp as well, cherry, amano, ghost shrimp is all i can think of.

Crystal shrimp are colorful also. Bamboo shrimp aren't as bright but are bigger, and can be fairly red in color in good conditions. I have a mates pair and they are fascinating to watch.

I'd put your betta in this tank because you've got a betta in a 2.5 gallon, and that's really not much. You can keep a betta with corydoras habrosus, hastatus, or pygmaeus. You could keep with them some shrimp (bamboo shrimp should be safe) a few snails, and a nice plant list.

That's what I would do.

I agree that it'd be nice seeing the betta in larger living quarters. If you really don't want to go that route though then maybe a pair or two of peacock gudgeons? Or some spotted blue-eyes?

HERE is some more info on the peacock gudgeons, and HERE is some on the spotted blue-eyes.

Oh and be sure to cycle the tank following THIS. Sorry for all the links, just want to make sure your fish will be happy!

I had platys and a swordtail in there before, they seemed fine before they died.

Personally I wouldn't keep either of those in a ten gallon. I had a group of swordtails in my 55 gallon and they would swim the whole tank up and down. I can't imagine them having enough room in a ten.
