I finally found a petstore that sells female bettas. Here are some pics of them. The red one is Ruby and the blue one is Sapphire.

This is the tank. It is a 3 gallon. I wanted to use something different for decoration in the tank so I bought silk flowers at the dollar store.

I bought red silk flowers for the male betta, thought it would suit him better. It looks great because he has a little red on the end of his fins.

Aw, they're so cute! The silk flower thing is a really neat idea, I like the look!
Are you suuure they're females though? They look like young VT males to me. Do they have ovipositors (little white dot on their bellies just behind their ventral fins?)

Yes, I'm sorry, but I agree - Those look like young males to me. Femaleswill have a little white dot on their underside right before their bottom fin -It is fairly obvious. If you can't see one, they are male.

It your lfs's don't carry females, try getting some online. A lot of people on the forum offer bettas for free from their spawns, and you only have to pay shipping. Ask around, or maybe post in the Buy/Sell forum :)

The pictures show their bellies quite clearly... you'd have no problem seeing an oviposter, and I don't see one. -_-

Yes they are females, ty for the concern, but I am sure they are females. They get along great in the tank.

So you do see their ovipositors then?

You really shouldn't have two females in a tank together. They do best in groups of 4-5 in 10 or more gallons. They may be fine at first, but almost always, small numbers of females in small, sparsely planted tanks will attack, harm, and possibly even kill one another. I made that mistake when I was new to bettas; bought two females for my 5 gallon tank. They got along great for 2 weeks or so, then one day, one simply ripped the other one apart. It started with just ripped fins, so I thought it was fin rot and tried medicating. A few days later, her entire belly was ripped open, and she was dead. :byebye:

They're VERY pretty, but I'd definitely be careful too. The red especially looks extremely long-finned for a female. I hope everything does work out, though ^_^
