Fin Rot Or Fin Growth?

Alright,

So I don't have a test kit at home. So I took the water to the pet store to get it tested. The guy said that my ammonia level is at a stress level. My nitrate level as well.

I didn't know anything about cycling the tank, so I guess I don't have the good bacteria in their to eat up the nitrate. But I change the water every 2-3 days, 50%.

Yesterday, I cleaned out his gravel, his plants, his castle everything, and did a 100% water change.

What should i do next to keep the ammonia levels low. Thank you!

did they write it down for you? he honestly is growing his fins!!! i think you are in panic mode. i see no signs of anything sinister...
and if you didnt make a typo with nitrates (not nitrItes) id like to know what they consider dangerous levels for nitrAte...fish can be happy @ 100 ppm +.
get yourself some nice REAL plants in there...they will help use up some of the "bad" stuff until the filter is cycled...do 40% water changes everyday/ every other day until cycled.

didnt mean to sound harsh...hard to determine intent with type.
that seems to be either scales coming off(normal- kind of like when skin peels), or anchor worm which is easily treated with meds.
does it look like a worm with a forked tail (angle misleading)...if not id say its scaling which happens with all fish from time to time.


again. not meant to sound as you may have taken it. see lots of posts with new betta owners thinking regrowth is something to worry about as they dont have the experience...it can be startling to bring a new one home and seeing the clear bits at the edge of the fins...id think something were wrong too...it really is amazing how fast their fins can grow with proper care and diet.

either way, the new symptom)?) in NO way has to do with his finnage, which looks GREAT (you should be happy that they are growing- i closely looked at ALL pics posted and that is what they show...)...the new thing is in no way related.
