My betta has got fin rot, and now my panda cory has it too.
They share a 38l tank with 3 pygmy corys. About a week ago i noticed a pinhole in my bettas fins, and also noticed his fins are quite seethrough. I started on daily 80-90% water changes. Did that for 4 days i think, and things werent improving. On the second day i also noticed my single panda cory looked like he'd had his tail nipped (highly unlikely given the placid companions), and this has progressed a little more.
On day 4 i started treating with eSHa 2000, at a double dose, and things have (on day 7 today) changed with the betta. The pinhole has gone, though the fins look as thin as they did a week ago. They may well be looking a bit more ragged at the ends. The panda cory's tail has stopped rotting as far as i can see, but isnt growing back yet.

Do i keep double dosing? and for how long? They are all eating fine, pygmy corys are unaffected.
I'd like to do a water change but then i'll need to put more meds in. but how much? standard dose is 4 drops for their size tank, 8 drops double dose, per day.

any thoughts?

have added pic - overnight the bottom part of her tail has shredded, and the tip of her dorsal fin has gone too. I actually think she may be being nipped by the betta  not sure whether to put the cory into the bigger tank - but there are no meds in there. or would she heal in there anyway without meds?

I was going to ask if the betta is nipping the corys fins.

If the betta nipping I would isolate the sick corys. Once there better maybe think about adding them to another tank.
Carry on with the esha med, but follow the instructions on redosing.

What are your water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

I cant get the spare tank til tomorrow so ive put her back in the main tank til ive got the hospital set up. again.
anyway stats are fine. ammonia and nitrite 0, nitrates 10 (yes theyre always that low), pH8, temp 26. just eSHa administered in the last few days. 35l.

Ok.
Do another round of the esha med.
If no improvement get back to the board.
Good Luck.

Have put her back into the tank with the betta but with a divider, so that they are both benefiting from the eSHa. Will carry on til i see an improvement, thanks Wilder

Today i found the betta the wrong side of the divider ( i obviously hadnt pushed it down quite enough  ), and the panda cory with the pygmys. The tail is worse, whether just from fin rot (if it is that) or the betta getting to her an nipping her again, i dont know.

I was wondering if it might be better using something else, like interpet, as im not seeing any difference in the bettas fins at all. Or do i carry on with the broader spectrum eSHa so it covers any infection the panda cory may get as a result of being nipped? What do you think?

If you change med you will have to do a water change, then run some fresh black carbon for 24 hours.
Myxazin a good med for finrot. But if it's a bad strain of bacteria you really need antibiotics in isolation.

Ok thanks, have ordered myxazin, will do the water change and carbon tomorrow. So myxazin is a bactericide, is that right? So not as strong as an antibiotic? What are we looking at as an antibiotic then?
Thanks :good:

No myxazin by waterlife dos'nt have antibiotics in it.

Antibiotic like tetracycline which treats gram negative and gram positive bacteria's.

Ah ok thanks. Its very odd that the 3 pygmy cories dont have anything wrong with them, no signs of rot at all. Do you think i should remove them and put them in the bigger tank while treatment is carried out? They seem to cope fine with meds, but i dont want them subjected to it if they dont need it. But on the other hand they may be carrying something which isnt showing in them yet

It's best to isolate sick fish and treat. As well fish can build a resistance up to the meds.

Ok thanks - theyve had 2 days of myxazin already - no difference in either the betta or the panda but will continue. Will also be taking out the pygmys later (slightly concerned for them as last time they were in with the tetras they were nipped, but will keep an eye on them.

This is the panda 2 days ago - shes still eating and swimming about ok so not too worried.
